Japan’s leading diversified materials manufacturer Nitto
Denko Corporation (Nitto Denko) announced today, the company’s over 33,000 employees* worldwide will
support the “Turn-off-lights campaign” campaign advocated by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan
(MOEJ), an energy-saving initiative which encourages people to turn the lights off at enterprise
buildings and facilities, as well as ordinary households.
In line with its endeavor to promote lifestyle based on "long-life, high quality, and recycling"
nationwide, MOEJ has held the event every summer since 2003. Nitto Denko started joining this
nation-wide campaign in 2009 as a part of the company’s newly launched “Green Design Action” (GDA)
initiative, targeting to raise the group-wide awareness of global environmental conservation. GDA aims
to develop pro-environment behavior among Nitto Denko employees all around the world, so that they can
go about their daily lives guided by the “green” mindset.
In the last two years, Nitto Denko’s participation to the campaign took the form of turning off the
lights at production facilities and billboards, alongside employees’ homes, in Japan and some of
non-Japanese subsidiaries. This year, faced with an energy crisis as the summer – when energy demand
peaks – arrives in Japan, the need and awareness to save energy is heightened more than ever around the
country. Against such backdrop, Nitto Denko now takes a step further in its contribution to this event
with the entire group tackling the challenge of energy conservation in a united effort.
