The Nitto Denko Corporation (Headquarters: Osaka Japan,
President: Yukio Nagira) was awarded the 2013 Top 100 Global Innovators Award sponsored by Thomson
Reuters (Headquarters: New York, NY, USA, Japanese Office: Tokyo), a leading information service
company. This is the third consecutive year that the company received this award which recognizes the
top 100 global innovators.
Thomson Reuters identifies the world’s most innovative companies and research institutes through
analysis of patent and intellectual property trends based on its original patent data. The methodology
was developed by Thomson Reuters with the support of IP experts from outside organizations. The criteria
for this award are “Volume,” a sizable amount of innovation; “Success,” the ratio of published
applications to granted patents over the past three years; “Global,” a ratio that shows which companies
place a high value on their portfolios in major world markets; and “Influence,” a total count of
citations by other companies to each organizations’ patents over the past three years. Among others,
“Influence” accounts for 50% of a total evaluation score.
“It is quite an honor to receive this award for three years in a row. It is a result of the efforts by
all Nitto Group members. We will continue to establish our globally competitive IP network.” said
Toshihiko Omote, Board Member and CTO. Takashi Shoda, Senior General Manager of Intellectual Property

Reuters 2013 Top 100 Global Innovator companies span the globe. The largest percentage of companies is
from North America: 46%. Asia accounts for 32% and Europe for 22%. Japanese companies represent 28% of
those companies represented worldwide. Nitto strives to further enhance the value of its IP and maximize
its corporate value.
