Japan’s leading diversified materials manufacturer, Nitto Denko Corporation, today announced that it
has been named to the Dow Jones Asia Pacific Sustainability Index for 2012. This is the first time
that the company has been included in the index and is a clear indication of the importance Nitto
Denko places on achieving greater levels of sustainability and fulfilling our obligations to
stakeholders.
Nitto Denko was included after its participation in the SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment, an
in-depth analysis of a corporation's economic, environmental, and social performance. The company was
ranked 154 out of the 600 largest companies from the developed Asia Pacific countries. A total of 74
Japanese companies were included. Nitto Denko performed particularly well in the areas of customer
relationship management and environmental policy and management systems.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes were launched in 1999 as the first global sustainability benchmarks. The DJSI is a partnership between the Dow Jones Indexes and SAM Sustainability Assessments which rates the top corporate performers in accordance with both financial indicators and sustainable business practices. The Dow family of indexes track the stock performance of the world's leading companies and serves as benchmarks for investors in addition to providing an effective engagement platform for companies who want to adopt sustainable best practices. Every year, the DJSI invites the world’s 2,500 largest companies to report on their sustainability practices across economic, environmental and social criteria.
