Japan's leading diversified materials manufacturer Nitto Denko Corporation newly launched a satellite R&D laboratory-and-office at Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, the company announced on July 8, 2011. Located in the university's Techno-Alliance Building opened last June to serve as a base for advanced university-industry cooperation activities, the laboratory-and-office called Nitto Denko Advanced Technology Cooperative Research Center (the Center) will be manned by 20 Nitto Denko researchers who will be conducting various R&D projects such as organic electronics luminescence lightings and thin-film solar cells. 
" The Center will be our R&D base for developing core technologies and pursuing grand-scale projects, which feature an innovative mix of developments from multiple research fields," said Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Toshihiko Omote. "We would take full advantage of the merits only universities can offer, such as brilliant resources optimum for the industry-and-academia joint efforts. Its location is ideal for holding on-campus internship programs for students as well as for conducting collaboration with international students studying there. Looking toward our centennial anniversary in 2018, we will pursue new R&D opportunities which will eventually lead to actual business," Omote remarked. 
Nitto Denko plans to further explore the partnership with Osaka University, in the form of another research office at the Photonics Advanced Research Center within the university premises, which will serve as a research base for projects concerning biosensors and others.
